The new house

2-2, CH/A, slab foundation so no skunks can move in underneath. More than twice the space of the rental, a garage I can use half of for workspace and appliances that work right. (Except for the dishwasher, but we didn't have one at the rental, so even just having the space for it set aside is nice, and it may just be hooked up wrong.)

You know you're getting domesticated when a lever-type can crusher is one of the most useful appliances you can add to the house.

I've got about a two-year backlog of Dr Pepper cans to crush. This thing reduces them to where I can get at least three bags worth into one bag, so we won't have the huge pile that took up part of the garden at the rental place. I haven't decided yet if I'll set my melting furnace up again and cast them into something or just haul them down to the recycling center.

Nice.

What can you cast them in to?

Right now, little cornbread-shaped ingots. If I was banking on aluminum prices taking a big jump in a couple of years, it would be a great way to store it, since they're a lot smaller than the pile of crushed cans it takes to make one ingot. I've experimented a bit with sand casting other things, but haven't quite gotten it down to the point of being practical.
One possibility that I've done some drawings for, and a test casting that gave me some ideas for improvement, is a support and alignment system for the primary mirror of a reflecting telescope.

So many words... :P

I'll nod and pretend that I know what all that means though. :D
