Useful Reading

Apparently I haven't been visiting Don Rearic's site much lately, as he's snuck in some interesting articles I wasn't aware of.

His Kids' Stuff pages are good reading, as is the rest of the site.  Set aside a couple hours and browse when you get the chance.

What kind of knife do you carry?

Well, what I carry is a Benchmade Griptilian in basic black grip and uncoated plain-edge blade. My wife has a Mini-Griptilian in bright green.

What I keep handy around the house and car for specific tasks, OTOH, would take a whole new post to go in to...I'll have to drag out the camera and do that sometime this week.

Alright, cool, thanks.

I need a new knife (mine is bright pink...ugh, but it was free...) and I can't decide which to get.

I think I'm going to go with a Benchmade, just can't decide which!

Looks like they offer the Mini in pink - among other colors. That would make it less likely to wander off. ;)

I'm more of a fan in black...

one of my best friends works is a tac-medic...he would yell at me if I bought anything other than a black knife...haha.

Given all the black stuff I own, I'm starting to become a fan of hunter safety orange stuff...especially after dropping things at night, or having to find a particular black item among all the other black items in a pile or bag.
Also, I've heard a lot of good things about the Mora knives for use in the field. Sheath knives have a definite advantage in deployment speed and ease of cleaning. Specifically, look at the ones with laminated blades. They're carbon steel, so you'll need to dry the blade often, and avoid oxidizing sanitizers, but the edge retention and general durability is said to be really impressive. If you want more corrosion resistance, the stainless ones also get great reviews (especially considering the prices) but I just don't see any way they could match the properties of the laminated high carbon steel.

Gentlemen out there who find pink-handled knives unmanly:

Just as carrying a knife with a drab or ugly black, OD, Camo, bone or stag handle has never caused a woman on this planet to grow a hoo-hoo, carrying a knife with a pink handle will not cause any man's hoo-hoo to fall off. :) It doesn't make a man less manly to carry a pink knife. A man should be able to carry a knife of any color he chooses without worrying what his friens/co-workers might think of him.
Conversely, carrying a black-handled knife with a huge, black-coated tanto blade does not make a man more manly.

oublietttt: I've known at least one macho cop to have his Peerless cuffs powdercoated in Barbie pink. It kept the other cops from swiping them, and the criminals he cuffed really didn't want to attract too much attention to themselves and their cute pink bracelets.
